SeaWheeze 2026 Training: Week 5 of 16

MON 5/18 • Day 29: DNF Easy 5 (Weak & Sick)

Welp, the DNF fairy got me today.

I’ve been traveling nonstop. Long run yesterday. Playoff season at work. In denial of a sore throat for the last two days.

The first mile is known to be a liar, but I’ve been running for long enough to know a couple times a year, it’s not. Today was one of those days.

Headed out for 5, called it after a mile. I need some rest. But hey, at least my outfit matches the flowers?

TUE 5/19 • Day 30: Strength

So I’ve been slacking on the strength work these past couple of weeks, but I made it happen today.

Made one huge mistake, though.

Ran into a friend while holding a set of 25s, and started catching up while still holding said 25s and now… I’m pretty sure my grip hates me.

Turns out I’m pretty good at picking things up, not so great at putting them down. Oops 😬

WED 5/20 • Day 31: 6.5 Easy (Weak & Sick, STILL)

This run was an absolute nothing burger. After DNFing an easy one on Monday, I thought taking it easy this time would fix things. About the only thing I’m good for at this point is taking selfies with rhododendrons.

I had a 9.5mi Progression on the calendar, but deep down I knew before I even went to bed last night that I didn’t have it in me.

Switched to an easy 6.5mi instead. HR in tempo zone despite copious walk breaks. While mind won out over matter, not sure it should’ve. I’m tempted to call this entire week a wash.

Forward is a pace. That’s what mattered most today.

THU 5/21 • Day 32: REST: Travel to Vegas

On the Road: Las Vegas, NV (Again)

After feeling AWFUL on both of my runs at home this week, there was no part of me that though running outdoors in 110 degree heat fresh off a plane was a good idea (it’s not, even if I’m feeling well).

I was also feeling a little gypped on pool time after last week. By the time I got down to the pool deck, I got 43 whole minutes before they closed up for a special event that evening. This week, I was a woman on a mission to get some Vitamin D, so that’s exactly what I did.

After that, ya girl is a creature of habit, so it was off to Eataly for Cacio e Pepe and a glass of vino bianco. It’s not a first night in Vegas without it.

FRI 5/22 • Day 33: Strength

On the Road: Las Vegas, NV

Who doesn’t open their hotel gym in a prime vacation destination in the Pacific time zone until 6am for all us jet-lagged weirdos that need something to do when we wake up before our alarms?

The Aria, that’s who.

Early morning strength work instead of early morning doomscroll is the key that unlocked a good morning (so far, no whammies)

Need to bookmark this for next time my brain says BUT I DONT WANNA at 6am

After that, worked all day, blah blah blah…

But wait… it gets better

Easily the best part of the day is how I ended up going to see the Jonas Brothers live, when the plan wasn’t even a thing at 8am.

Ever so conveniently, they were playing a MDW residency at the Park MGM, and we were staying next door at the Aria. Even MORE conveniently, my friend Jen knows a guy who knows one of the Jonas Brothers (!!!), so he was able to send a quick text and sure enough, a pair of tickets was waiting for us at Will Call. Thanks, Nick Jonas for setting up your friend’s friend and her friend (it’s me, I’m the 3rd degree friend)!

I consider myself more of a Backstreet Boys millennial, and not a Jonas Brothers millennial, but I have to say the show was amazing. No gimmicks, just 10-15 musicians up on stage having a blast. Energy was up the entire time, I’d absolutely go see them again.

Truth be told, I liked my concert outfit so much, I wore it again to postgame drinks the following night. These cargo jeans have a chokehold on me. 3 cheers for air conditioning and underground tunnels, because I wouldn’t have lasted a minute in them outdoors.

SAT 5/23 • Day 34: REST: R3G3 Set Day

On the Road: Las Vegas, NV

Turns out I was so busy this day, the only photos on my personal phone are of my dinner, and the receipt for it. Woof.

SUN 5/24 • Day 35: REST: R3G3 Vegas

On the Road: R3G3 – Colorado Avalanche @ Vegas Golden Knights

Game Day. No workout. That right there is a face of someone who either needs a nap or a snack. Let’s be real, it was probably both. I was out late the night before.
