The Lululemon Backstory
My name’s Katy and I’m rather athletic, hence the whole AthletiKaty moniker. Welcome to my corner of the internet, where I blog incessantly about lululemon athletica, with a sprinkling in of Athleta, Sweaty Betty and rambling about fitness and travel whenever the mood strikes.

Click top left to head to the blog’s home page, where you’ll find my latest lists & fit reviews re: lululemon athletica, Athleta, etc. If you’re bored and want a long-winded history lesson on how some rando from the ‘burbs ended up starting a blog about gym clothes, keep on reading.
Here’s the backstory: once upon a time I used to live in reasonably-priced workout gear found in sporting goods stores or discount retailers, which was once a fancy step up from the ratty old t-shirts and bike shorts I’d sport on the elliptical at my collegiate rec center.
After college graduation, going to the gym went from a necessity to work off all of the booze & snacks, to a brand new social scene of likeminded exercise nuts like me. Suddenly, I found myself paying a bit more attention to how I presented myself to the outside world, including at the gym.
A college friend of my sister’s used to make mention of @lululemon on Twitter, and I thought that it was just some funny name. Didn’t think twice of it. Upon starting CrossFit, a few people in the box wore some lulu, and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out why the f*ck anyone would spend more than $40 on a pair of workout pants.
Back in 2013, I wanted a slightly longer pair of black workout crops to wear around. TJ Maxx & Marshall’s wielded no luck. So, I moved slightly up the price scale to Old Navy & Target. Still no dice. Let’s go see what Nike & Under Armour have to offer. Nada. REALLY?! Agh. The woes of being 5’9″.
One day, I found myself in need of a new pair of running shoes, so I headed to a few towns over to a specialty shop to get fitted for some new kicks. A block away was lululemon athletica. The rest is (expensive) history.
As AthletiKaty has taken shape, two common weekly installments have emerged as mainstays:
5 Faves & a Dud
Going into this, I already knew that a few other well-read lululemon/fit fashion blogs were out there. I had to do something different. Enter my snarky personality. Instead of reposting photos from lululemon stores’ facebook pages in one post, 5 Faves & a Dud features the top 5 pieces that I’m most likely to buy, and one absolute HELL NO just for comedic measure.
If store photos are your thing, you won’t find them here. However, the lovely author of Agent Athletica, Suzanne, took the time to create a facebook list that any FB user can follow, so you can see all the new pieces posted in one place.

WMTM Alert!

WMTM is short for We Made Too Much. This is lulu’s cutesy way of saying whoops here’s the ugly and/or ill-fitting stuff that we can’t seem to sell at the originally astronomical price point. Every Thursday, lululemon updates this section of their website, and I do my best to race home at my lunch break and scour it for any great deals!
Sometimes, core styles like Speed Shorts, Energy Bras and Cool Racerbacks actually make it to WMTM. When they do, they don’t last for long. Everyone loves to find a bargain, so I do my best to try and help my fellow lulu lovers out. π
