“Ain’t nobody dope as me, I’m just so fresh & clean” – what lululemon wants you to say after you give their new Selfcare line a try. I initially posted about it back in April, and this morning, upload came early (huzzah!), with the fancy soap front and center.
5 Faves & a Dud: 6/18/19 Edition
I’ll get to the Selfcare options in a little bit, but first let’s focus on the fun stuff that caused me to hit the add to cart button this week. I did not check out, of course, because expensive. Most of upload featured dim and white shades, but we’ve got some happy pops of color.
Favorite #1: Fast & Free Short 6″ Non-Reflective ($68) in Jet Stream
Jet stream has to be one of my all-time favorite colors from lululemon. While they rolled up a bit when I did a mile for time at CrossFit a couple weeks ago, my black pair has stayed put for jogging and anything else CF threw at me that day. I love these, and as long as I’m not trying to break any personal land speed records in them, they’re one of lulu’s best ideas in a long time.
Favorite #2: Scuba Hoodie *Light Cotton Fleece ($118) in Vivid Amber
This color is just so bright and happy, and homegirl is working. IT! I haven’t gotten a new Scuba since 2016 (I only own two), but this bright shade is one that I don’t own ANYTHING in, so if I splurge, I’ll justify it in my head as something completely new and different.
Favorite #3: By the Bay Skimpy One Piece ($128) in Dark Red
I don’t know where to start with how much I love this swimsuit. The tan lines may not be the best, but not only can you swim in it, simply throw a cute skirt or pair of shorts over it and WHAMMO you are ready for a night out on vacation. It’s also available in black.
Favorite #4: Wunder Under High-Rise Tight *Engineered Full-On Luxtreme 28″ ($98) in Tribal Pace Wunder Under White Black
It’s all about the angles on these. I’m not sure I’ll pick them up, because I don’t have too many yoga-ish activities to wear them to that I can’t already cover with the umpteen other options in my pants catalogue.
If you’re digging the print but can’t bring yourself to commit, you can pick up an On the Beat Belt Bag in this same pattern to jazz up a simple outfit. Or… if you can’t even bring yourself to wear it – travel stylishly with the Sun Up Sun Down Pouch.
Favorite #5: Invigorate Bra ($52) in Breezy
I haven’t picked up a new Invigorate in a while, and I feel like I could get a lot of mileage out of a baby blue like Breezy. I get a lot of mileage anyway. #runnerjoke
The Dud: Adam Selman Sport French Cut Legging ($125) in watermelon
Taking it on over to Carbon38 for this week’s facepalm. IMHO, C38 appears to cater more to the “instagram model” crowd, so I don’t always click open their emails. But, this morning I did. Somehow I ended up looking at a collection abbreviated and referred to as A.S.S. (classy, amirite), and found this terrible mess.
I know the 90’s are back with the high waists and high cut swimsuits. But why. This watermelon is a phenomenal color, but you literally can’t get any more VPL than this. The seams kind of hide out in the black/rose option, but the watermelon solid and mesh options ought to be yanked offstage with a giant nope rope ASAP. Terrible horrible no thank you very much.
From the Soap Box
For once, my soap box reference can be considered punny! Lululemon Selfcare makes its debut this week, and I’m happy to see that some products are being offered in Full and Travel sizes for those who may not want to commit $$$ to a product that hasn’t had time to build up a reputation yet.
Price points seem on par with what you’re going to pay at Sephora or Ulta.
- No-Show Dry Shampoo ($34/$18)
- Sweat Reset Face Moisturizer ($48/$28)
- Anti-Stink Deodorant *Aloe Lotus ($18/$12) – Women
- Anti-Stink Deodorant *Black Pepper Sandalwood ($18/$12) – Men
- Basic Balm ($14)
It’s worth noting that both Women and Men are featured in the photos for some of the products. The Basic Balm and Moisturizer don’t appear to be scented, so these products are engineered to benefit both male and female athletes alike. The only thing I can think of that are really M/W are the two differing scents of deodorant. I don’t personally feel black pepper is my signature scent, but I can get down with Aloe Lotus.
Patterns of the Week
We’re looking at two light-colored patterns featured this week, Tropical Shadow Starlight Multi and Wee Are From Space Sheer Blue Chambray.
The tropical one is like a suuuuuper faded piece of resortwear. Gives it some texture, as opposed to 100% white. Options include:
- Speed Up Crop 21″ (Online Only)
- Sculpt Tank II
- Define Jacket
- Wunder Under High-Rise Tight 25″ Full-On Luxtreme– it is SO much easier to type High Times. Grrrr.
Wee Are From Space Sheer Blue Chambray is exactly as it sounds. The blue is very neutral, and overall anything in this pattern is going to be a pastel from far away.
Seeing Red
Took me a few minutes trying to decide which gorgeous red one piece was going to make the top 5. At the end of the day, the color is what matters most. If the cap sleeved option isn’t your style, there are quite a few options to choose from.
- Deep Sea Swim Top
- Sun Soaker Cheeky Bottom Low Rise
- Deep Sea High Waist Bottom (Online Only)
- Beach Break Paddle Suit
- Weave the Waves One Piece
- See the Sea Swim Top
Easy Breezy
Breezy also uploaded in fourother styles if my Invigorate pick doesn’t invigorate you:
What Else?
- I’m digging the Seek Simplicity Tank for a summer time basic I can wear with a normal bra. It’s reversible, and available in 6 different colors: Breezy, Moonwalk, Wasabi, White, Polar Ice, and Powdered Mauve.
- Plain white Align Pant 28″ – must find in store and give squat test with crazy skivvies.
- Narrow miss on the top 5 – the All it Takes Tank looks rather flattering, thanks to the side ruching. I wish this were available in stores so that I could gauge the fit.
- The This Instant Short looks like it could go from hike to post-hike beers in as long as it takes for you to change from hiking boots to cute sandals. Versatility FTW, especially if you have an outdoorsy vacation coming up, and limited suitcase space.
- More Hi-Rise Speed Up Shorts – this week’s new colors are aquatic green & mystic mint (pictured).
- It’s been quiet on the CRB front lately, but I LIKE the Amber Aura Cool Racerback II. I like it a LOT.
I can’t stop thinking about the Vivid Amber Scuba. What has everyone else got their eye on this week? Also, please tell me I’m not nuts about that Carbon38 dud. It’s terrible, right?
RIGHT?!

I’m mildly obsessed with orange and yellow right now. I finally accepted that Honey Lemon won’t work for me, but I definitely stalked it…like a lot. I missed out on the first release of the Vivid Amber Scuba last year and recently purchased on Poshmark for $40! You neeeed it. It’s such a fun color!
I also really like the Amber Aura color but not in a luon CRB. I hate luon, and CRBs don’t fit me right. I’m hoping for some more pieces to drop soon.
I love the red one piece with cap sleeves, but why do most of the lulu swim pieces have skimpy bum coverage? I know it’s the trend right now, but I have a bubble butt, and coverage like this ends up being a complete thong on me. I’m too modest for that. I don’t really do bikinis either, so those options are out the window. First world problems for sure, but bathing suit shopping has taken on a new level of annoyance that wasn’t there a few years ago!
Don’t forget about the Jet Stream Swiftly LS! I hate to pay full price for anything these days, but I may just have to suck it up this one time…
I actually laughed when I saw those C38 pants and then did a quick calendar check to make sure we were way past April Fool’s. They are just SO wrong!!! It reminds me of when toddlers dress themselves and put their underwear on over their clothes. Or maybe some kind of old school pseudo-superhero tights? I don’t get it. I guess they would be great for a game of truth or dare.
The tribal print is backed in white and it was really noticeable when stretched….boo!!
The new vivid amber is pretty! I hope to see it in store. I’m digging mystic mint too. I’d like this in a FTB as a back up to my favorite faded zap one.
