Lululemon’s 20Y Anniversary Collection

lululemon

First thing’s first: the real birthday around here (ahem, mine) isn’t until October. 🙂 Until then, let’s warm it up and toast to lululemon for turning 20. One more year until my yoga pants can legally throw back a birthday cocktail in the US. But lululemon’s Canadian. So there’s that.

Last night, lululemon let out on instagram that in honor of their milestone, the classic manifesto all over the ubiquitous red totes had been updated.

You don’t need me to tell you that Tuesdays are where the fun happens on lululemon’s website. To go along with the updated manifesto is a collection of special edition gear to celebrate in. With the SE asterisk comes a price hike on some pieces ($72 for en Energy Bra?!). I’m not sure I’m here for that, but the red & black wins points in my book.

Lululemon’s 20Y Anniversary Collection

Wunder Under Hi-Rise 7/8 Tight 20Y Collection Full-On Luxtreme ($118)

These are the slickest design of the bunch. I love the red & black color combo, so the black cons & red pants have me wondering if I should snag a pair. Do I need? Nah. Want? Totally different story. Forget the whole “you’re dressed like a shopping bag” thing.

Energy Bra 20Y Collection ($72)

I have an embossed manifesto 50-Rep Bra from who knows when, and it’s withstood the test of time. I just bought the flamenco red and already own multiple black Energy Bras, so I don’t think this one will be joining my collection.

Scuba Hoodie 20Y Collection Classic Cotton Fleece ($128)

I actually hovered over the ‘add to cart’ button on this red one… even though it isn’t really a piece that I’d normally gravitate toward. I’ve always appreciated lululemon for the inconspicuous branding, but the sleeve graphic just does it for me. Don’t know why. It just does, okay?

Energy Bra 20Y Collection ($62)

I don’t understand this one in the front. I guess it’s odd to see lululemon scrawled in words. Even though I like the graphic on the sleeve on the Scuba, just painting lululemon across the front seems like it could have been done better. The date & 20Y on the back earn this bra approximately 2 redemption points.

Purist Cycling Water Bottle 20Y Collection ($22)

Wunder Under Hi-Rise 7/8 Tight *20Y Collection ($108)

Sweatpants with words on the leg were a bit of the rage in the early 2000s, my high school sports heyday. Again, I like the words on the Scuba, but these tights & the Energy fall short in my opinionated book.

The Reversible 5mm Mat *20Y Manifesto ($78)

I only got my first lululemon yoga mat a couple weeks ago. Fine, fine, it’s SO MUCH BETTER than the TJ Maxx one I’ve been rocking for years. You win, lululemon. You win.

Anyone picking up anything from the SE collection? I’m not sure yet. I like some of the embossed prints, but being old and practical (OH AND A MONTH OUT FROM A SEAWHEEZE SHOWCASE BONANZA), I’m trying to shut the ‘want’ up with a louder voice of ‘don’t need’.

  1. I dunno…… having giant LULULEMON spelled out on my shirt or pants is not for me.
I love the red- it’s such a vibrant shade- but then they had to go and ruin it with huge blocked letters. :/
I wish they had brought back fan favorites/classics for a limited time instead of this stuff. I would have been so happy to see some OG Lulu to celebrate!

  2. I bought the red manifesto wu. They were too pretty to pass up. I’m usually not into brand displays, but the embossing feels subtle enough to me. I’m considering the black pair as well.

I almost got that red scuba too. I really like it! It sold out online though and I don’t feel like hunting it down. But if I happen to see one, I’ll be tempted.
