The Fitting Room: Lululemon Essential Tank

lululemonReviews

Next off the rack for my latest trip to lululemon’s fitting room is the Essential Tank. The tiger space dye black white seriously light luon has been around for a year or so now, so I am wondering if this is a design from last season that kept on getting pushed off into the future. ANYHOW.

The Fitting Room: Essential Tank ($58)

I like the fabric, I really do. With the fun way this one was draped in back, I was excited as I headed into the fitting room, TTS 8 in hand.

At first look, it’s definitely a loose fit. EXCELLENT if you’re having a fat day (or week). The way it happened to catch on my shorts and fall in the back looked super cute. However, it was so far on the loose, it ended up feeling more like a muumuu than a shirt.

There’s a TON of extra fabric in the back, which led the tank to feel heavier than anticipated. It’s a generous hip length on my 5’9″ frame, which may leave shorter ladies swimming unless they size down.

In my case, even with the arm and neck openings, I felt like I could have sized down to a 6, which I’ve only ever done one other time in my life. I was running out of time and didn’t want to keep my friend Jen waiting, so I didn’t grab the next size for comparison.

All in all, it’s a great lightweight tank to wear around casually thus summer. If you plan on working out in it, though, you may end up with more (fabric) than your bargained for. If you order online, go TTS or DOWN. Definitely not up 🙂

  1. I have this tank from the first time they released these (last year?)–I love this one! The other colors of the newer ones they just released do not feel as nice as mine. I got my CRB size in it.

  2. Thanks so much for the review, this one I’ve been curious about. If it comes out in other colors I’ll have to give it a try.

  3. I bought and returned this tank. I didn’t think it was figure flattering. There was no waist definition. It just kinda “hung” on me and made me look fat. I’m 5’11” and tried it in a size 8.
