5 Faves & a Dud: Funfetti Minus the Cupcakes

Normally, I’m pretty good at double unders. Any WOD that includes them makes me fist pump while most others groan in displeasure. Well, Sunday morning at Open Gym I decided to get my cardio on in the form of the WOD called Flight Simulator.

Complete for time:

5 unbroken double unders
10 unbroken double unders
15 unbroken double unders
20 unbroken double unders
25 unbroken double unders
30 unbroken double unders
35 unbroken double unders
40 unbroken double unders
45 unbroken double unders
50 unbroken double unders
45 unbroken double unders
40 unbroken double unders
35 unbroken double unders
30 unbroken double unders
25 unbroken double unders
20 unbroken double unders
15 unbroken double unders
10 unbroken double unders
5 unbroken double unders

You must stop between sets. You cannot jump single unders between sets. If you break on a set, you must keep attempting and complete that set unbroken before you can move on.

SOUNDS FUN, RIGHT?! Well, I did it earlier this year in something like 13 minutes, taking adequate rest between the larger sets. I only broke on the first 45er that time.

Took me 18:46 this time, and I kept on freaking messing up only 5ish reps shy on the larger sets I can’t tell you how many times. My calves were starting to give out on me. Fast forward 24 hours, DOMS kicks in. OUCH. It’s now 48 hours and I’m still hobbling around, and did step ups instead of the Rx’d box jumps at the gym today.

My calves haven’t hurt this bad since that one time in 2013 I thought doing 1000 double unders for time was a good idea. (It wasn’t.) There is no point to this story. I just feel like complaining, and advising anyone who’s not MONEY at dubs to tread carefully with this spicy little number.

The word of the week to describe lulu’s new print: FUNFETTI.

5 Faves & a Dud – 2/9/16 Upload

Favorite #1: Align Pant ($98) in inkwell

Ahem… WOOHOO! Enough with the bright pinks, inkwell is long overdue. Hopefully lulu cranked out a bunch of these, because I envision this perfectly colored basic becoming very popular.

Favorite #2: Run Times Short *4-way Stretch ($54) in lakeside blue

This color is nothing short of beautiful. If the Run Times are your preference over Speeds, I envy your luck this week. Want. These. In. Speed. Shorts.

Favorite #3: Vinyasa Scarf ($48) in hyper stripe sea mist hero blue/hero blue

*closes eyes and dreams of spring*

Whattt… I can only feel 9 of my 10 fingers right now as I type this. Damn you, February temps. I will have to scope this one in person. Single ply Vinyasas are too flimsy for my taste. If this one has 2 layers of rulu, now we’re talking.

Favorite #4: Salute the Sun Singlet II ($54) in heathered lakeside blue

Normally I’m not that down with the heathered colors, but this shade of lakeside gives me hearts for eyes and I let things slide that I normally wouldn’t. Kind of like Porsche goggles can cloud your otherwise decent judgement and lead you into dating a guy for a few months who really didn’t deserve a rose past date 2. I wish that were a joke. We all make mistakes we’re less than proud of.

Anyway, this tank deserves a rose because it’s flattering and perfect for those days where you’re feeling less than svelte. The slit in back is a fun touch.

Favorite #5: Under Wraps Pullover ($118) in bordeaux drama

Now this is a bit more weather apropos for February. Temps are supposed to dip below zero in the next few days. I want to hide in this/from other people on an airplane. I’m hopping on an airplane this weekend (oh hai SLC!). Perhaps I take the one last gift card from Christmas to the mall and bid it adieu in exchange for this pullover. Perhaps not.

The Dud: All Tied Up Tank *Scoop ($48) in heathered light grey

If you want to look like the tacky tablecloths at your crazy cousin Sara’s disco-themed wedding reception, have at it.

Other Notable… Notes

  • CapoieraYup, the funfetti print (officially: capoeira multi) didn’t make it into the top 5. It’s fun, but I’m not quite feeling it to want any new pieces.
  • However… you may love it! If so, here are your options:
  • The online-exclusive Done Your Asana Pullover could be cute if it weren’t for the odd bow in the crotch.
  • I’m feeling hero blue – the Daily Practice Jacket in this shade is beautiful!
  • Normally not a Define Jacket lover, but the winter white vibe that space dye camo white silver spoon gives it just works. Well.
  • Regal Plum has been kicking around for a while, and a random In Flux Jacket has popped up this color. Does anyone out there own (and love) the In Flux? It’s never really jazzed me in the past.
  • If you live your life by the phrase “Barbie goes to the gym”, or you idolize any of those Beverly Hills housewives, the jewelled magenta Hustle in Your Bustle Jacket will most certainly help you look the part, Heidi Montag.
  • If it weren’t $68, I’d 100% snag the heathered sapphire blue Anahatasana LS to wear to bed every night.
  • The new dandy digie multi Cool Racerback is fun. Not $42 of full-priced fun, but $29 of WMTM fun.
  • Speaking of dandy digie multi, they look great in the Wunder Under Crop (Hi-Rise) *Full-On Luon, except it’s dark ink on light luon. #fearthesheer
  • Excellent choice by lulu’s designers to keep the Nouveau Limits Tank in lakeside blue a solid color!
  • The 4 color space dye white black Yogi Racerback III is an excellent wear around the house-er. Yeah that’s not a word. Whatever.
  • I really like the All The Right Places Pant II in hero blue. I still don’t like the price tag. Whomp whomp.
  • Dandy digie porcelaine black Speed Tight IV, Y U MUST BE FULL ON LUXTREME?

So much typing. Haven’t even gotten through the shorts & skirts yet. Attention span wandering. Check out the remainder of upload here…

Looks like another week and another empty shopping cart for me! I’m curious about that Under Wraps Pullover, but I’m going to wait to try it on first.

Seeing that it’s Mardi Gras, who bought what in a King Cake and booze-fueled food coma? 🙂

  1. i like the new salute the sun version w/o the back slit. when it’s tied up, it is cute and all but when i do hot yoga, it always ends up untied and flopping about.

i also like the inkwell aligns – inkwell is my fave lulu blue.

    1. True, tie tops are tricky. I have this one open-backed LS (NOT lulu, believe it or not) that I like to tie in back. Cute and comfortable until you sit down and have mega knot digging into your back.

  2. This was a bad week for me. Ended up with the Capoeira crops (they make me nostalgic for my trip a couple years ago to Rio!), the boom juice sculpt tank to match the crops (cuz matching), and that black white Yogi Racerback III (which I justified because it’ll be a great travel tank for my upcoming South America trip, right?). Got it all in store since I leave on the trip on Friday… I beelined for the crops when I walked in and the Ed was like, huh, oh, OH, lolz.

  3. I just bought the In Flux jacket in berry rumble last week, and I love it. I have a DSJ, and I gotta say I like the In Flux a little more. And speeds in lakeside blue would be pretty awesome, maybe next week…

And on topic of your double under workout, I just did my first few double unders today! I finally got a good rope last week (RX brand), and now can do a dub followed by a couple singles, and then another dub, then singles, etc. I am so pumped! I’m going to get consecutive dubs in a row soon, I just need to practice!

    1. Congratulations!

Dubs came to me with an excessive amount of practice. One day a few years ago I’d dropped into a box while visiting my sister out in CO, and decided that after jumping in on the WOD, I wasn’t going to leave until I strung 20 dubs together.

It took me at least 45min to accomplish that, and the box owner was like “I’ve never seen someone work that hard with a jump rope before.”

So I had plenty of zebra stripes to prove it, but once I got those dubs I haven’t lost them since! Practice is going to hurt (literally), but it will be worth it once everything clicks. 🙂

  4. I really love the align pants because they are so soft. I only purchased a black pair a few months ago but find that they pill easily especially in the front of the thighs. Katy have you experienced this as well? I don’t want to purchase another pair to have the same thing happen.

    1. Hi Kat! Unfortunately I have noticed that a little bit on the inner thighs of my Aligns too, and I don’t even work out in them.

It’s not bad enough or in a place noticeable enough for me to stop wearing them, but I have to call a spade a spade and say YES, there has been some pilling on mine too 😦

    2. This is exactly where mine have pilled! You would think that YOGA pants should be able to withstand some friction with a YOGA mat, right? They are my most comfy pants, though.
