The Fitting Room: Under Armour Color Blocked Ankle Tight

ReviewsUnder Armour

While sometimes it feels a bit creepy and invasive, there are other times when Facebook’s targeted advertising sheds light on something that actually piques my interest. Last week, these nifty color blocked tights by an old favorite, Under Armour, showed up in my newsfeed.

With a reasonable price point and the widespread availability of the UA brand, I figured it wouldn’t be too challenging to get my hands on a pair to give a go.

With not much on the calendar on Sunday, I found my way to my local sporting goods store and was able to find 4 of the 6 colors in stock. Sizing was limited, so it’s clear they’ve won some people over already. The only ones they had left in my size were in gray.

First up, carbon heather/white. Too similar to the heathered slate lululemon Mesh With Me Crops I just snagged on Poshmark 2 weeks back.

Next came this orange/gray color scheme that was in stock online last week when I considered buying these without trying them on. Now they’re not showing up on UA’s site. Whomp whomp.

Unfortunately, while they looked alright, these were a miss for me in multiple ways. First up, if you’re more comfortable with a higher-rise workout pant, these are not meant for you. I’d say they were a good 2-3in shy of reaching my belly button.

Secondly, the fabric… not sure what it was, but it wasn’t the elastic & compressive fabric that I’m used to from Under Armour.

Last of all, the knees were baggy. I don’t have particularly skinny or knobby knees, but there was more fabric than should have been in that area. For those of you who are fans of UA for their compression, steer clear. Unfortunately, these pants are a miss.

I’m glad I found and was able to try these on, as I was thisclose to ordering a pair online last week. Once I got out of these and put my lululemon Fast & Free Crops back on, all felt right in the world again.

  1. The fit is really odd. I wonder what happened with the design? I’ve never been a UA fan, but I do see some cute things on others at the gym.
