This week, man. THIS WEEK. Is anyone else having a week?
Have you ever hustled up to the point in your personal or professional life to a place where for once you’re feeling pretty good about yourself, only to have it suddenly all fall to pieces? Well, last week I was feeling pretty damn good about myself. I was excited and happy to go to work, I was feeling really awesome about some things I’d gotten accomplished. This week, notsomuch.
I’ve done a lot of crying in the last 36 hours. On my lunch break, during squats (I kid you not, 5×3 at 80% and today on set #5, I started welling up), and in the car on the way home. No need to get into specifics on the internet, but it’s just not a nice feeling to get favorable feedback on WHAT you do, but less than favorable feedback on WHO you are and how you carry yourself as a person. Last week, I felt like a million bucks. This week, I feel like $5.22.
($5.22 because I did a 105# Grace in 5:22 today)

5 Faves & a Dud – 10/4/16 Upload
Favorite 1: Savasana Waterproof Jacket II ($248) in deep green
This. Is. BEAUTIFUL. About the last thing I need in my life is another piece of outerwear, but I may just wait until 12:00a to say “It’s my birthday!” and blow the entire month’s lulu budget on this.
Favorite 2: Conduit Tight ($108) in black
Firstarooni, I’m surprised these are $108 when my Outruns were $118. Lulu, gimme $10 back. I’ll be surprised if this style hangs around for long, because it’s got the classic lululemon stripe flattery woven into the back, and some fun diagonal details.
Favorite 3: Mantra Toque ($42) in black
My favorite lulu hat from past years is blue. I have a gray one that’s a bit of a snoozer. Just thought to myself yesterday, will lulu make a plain black knit hat this year? The answer is yes, yes they will. They are. This one. This hat. Sentence fragment.
Favorite 4: Vinyasa Wrap ($58) in coco pique black white
Once, I almost forgot my coco pique black white Vinyasa Scarf on a plane. I was 2/3 of the way up the jetway before I realized it. Thankfully, I hadn’t exited into the terminal yet, so I could run back onto the plane to grab it. What an adventure.
Get this wrap, but don’t do what I did and (almost) leave it on a plane. Coco pique has a great texture to it. That’s relevant, somehow.
Favorite 5: Sleep ($0) in elusive mental state of peace
The Dud: Wunder Under Pant III (Hi-Rise) Fullux ($98) in boom bloom chartreuse green aurora
Oh geez, oh no, I really don’t know what’s going on here. It looks like Halloween, but in a less than favorable way. Which is why it’s the Dud.
In Conclusion…
[duffel bag full of excuses alert]My Dad pocket dialed me in the middle of writing this post. Then my sister called me after I taunted her for only planning to give my niece $1 for losing her first tooth. (Come on, tooth fairy, where’s the adjustment for inflation?) Then, my Mom called to make plans for tomorrow night. I rarely talk to the fam on weeknights, but sometimes it all comes at once! So, it took me an extra 2 hours to write this up tonight.
Homegirl is spent. I haven’t showered post CrossFit yet (gross!) and it’s 10pm.
I love you all dearly, but I need to call it a night. 30 sure did make sure it went out with some blood, sweat and tears.
I want that jacket. Mom told me not to buy the jacket. Darn you, fiscal responsibility. Mother knows best, I suppose.
Happy Birthday (early) – and I’ve been there professional/personal – it hurts bad when it’s personal. As far as lulu is concerned I’ve been tallying up all the great stuff i got this past year (mostly in the early parts) and I feel pretty sated. I can wait out these olives and other mish mesh stuff.
Usually I’m just a lurker because you make me laugh but I’m don’t usually have much to say. But as someone receiving very similar work criticism and knowing exactly how those tears feel I just wanted to say hi. And I’m sorry. Because it sucks and I don’t have any answers but hey, someone else out there in Internet-land feels your pain.

Hugs to you, Katy! I know it is hard now, but in 10 years (or 2), it won’t matter. Keep doing your best work, try to get along with everyone, and it will work out ok. It’s a season. As for the tooth fairy, isn’t $1 the going rate? My 5 year old just lost both top front teeth, and that’s what he got. Maybe in this case there’s an aunt supplement/stipend I don’t know about?
Three things. One, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 31 is an excellent prime number and overall a great year. I speak from the future (34) and 31 is rock solid. Two, I’m sorry to hear about your negative feedback at work. I’ve been there and the personality feedback is the toughest. I vote for crying it out and then eating as much deliciousness as you want tomorrow. I know we aren’t supposed to eat our feelings but cake is just so good. Three, buy the jacket! It’s your birthday and you can buy gorgeous lulu outerwear if you want to. Moms mean well, they really do, but they are such buzzkills sometimes. I mean, it’s their job and all but sometimes we have to call it what it is and do what we want! You know, within reason.
Happy birthday! I know your pain in dealing with work life balance, the ebbs and flows…get the jacket. It will be your security blanket and a reminder of positive reinforcement 🙂
PS – $1 for the tooth is is good. Save the rest and give an awesome electronic toothbrush for a stocking stuffer! Reward with reinforcing good habits!
Oh dear sister Lulubox – that sucks. But – you know this to be true – this too shall pass. And, as I say to my 11-year old baby girl – if all else fails, make like Taylor and Shake it Off. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and remember that you’re better than this. And I think you need the jacket. ONE day of the year you can justify treating yourself!! Hang in there. If it makes you feel better – I look forward to your blog about upload more than almost anything else I read all week. It’s not as much about the lulu as it is about your style and personality that comes through so clearly. Sorry about the bad stuff you’re going through. Have you tried the “Like nothing” tights? They are basically the luxtreme version of Align pants. That should cheer you up!

Happy birthday Katy!! I want to tell you that you should embrace who you are as a person. If you want to make a change, then by all means, be who you want to be, but don’t let anybody else tell you who you should be. (Sorry if that sounded like Dr. Phil. Or Dr. Seuss.) Anyway, that is nobody’s call to make but your own. And like the rest of the commenters here (and I’m sure a whole bunch more lurkers), I think your personality is preffy effing awesome.
You make us all smile. Gah, people can be so fucking stupid. It totally sucks working with people that have no clue how to give valuable feedback.
