CrossFit Open WOD 15.3

CrossFitFitness

I get it. The point of the Open is to separate the weed from the chaff. The point of the Open is to figure out who’s fit and who isn’t.

However, I still consider it an interesting card that #TheDaveCastro chose to play. With the introduction of the scaled WOD this year, the door was left open to make the Rx WODs more difficult. It finally happened with the announcement of Open WOD 15.3.

AMRAP in 14 minutes

  • 7 Muscle Ups
  • 50 Wall Balls
  • 100 Double Unders

For those of us who are fairly decent at CrossFit, but not amazing, we just got set up to hit a BRICK. FRICKIN. WALL.

I get it, I accept it. This is the time for those people who hit the brick frickin wall last year to step up and prove that they’re better than they were 365 days ago, and bust through it. The rest of us recreational CrossFitters are now relegated to the SCALED division.

The scaled specs? 10lb wall balls & SINGLE UNDERS.

What. The….

Anyone else agree with me that this is seems a little too easy? Muscle Ups & Double Unders Require skill. The scaled option removes BOTH aspects one has to have any skill to perform. It’s just jumping rope like a 2nd grader and throwing a ball that’s no heavier than a Thanksgiving turkey.

I can’t remember the last time I did SINGLE UNDERS in a workout.

Castro wins by weeding out those who can do MUPs and mindfcking the rest of us with such a seemingly easy WOD that we’ll likely screw it up because nobody’s head’s in the game taking it seriously.

You win, TDC. You freaking win.

UPDATED 3/21: He totally won. I actually had to teach myself how to do them on Friday before giving the scaled WOD a go on Sunday morning! Didn’t realize how second nature dubs had become.

Those wall balls though. I scored 778 reps, meaning 178 of them were wall balls. Guess who felt that for a good 3 days afterwards? AGGGHHH the memories of 13.4!
